Keynote Dr. Kathy Magliato, renowned heart surgeon, author and producer, kicked off the morning event with candid insights into her personal journey to achieve excellence in a field dominated by men, sharing how being authentic and leading with compassion and heart shaped her life and career. Following Dr. Magliato’s keynote, attendees had the unique opportunity to listen in as five Orange County Girl Scouts (ages 9-17) asked Kathy their own questions about her life and career.

The Girl Scout panel was the perfect segue into the table exercise, where attendees crafted inspirational statements to encourage today’s girls to remain true to themselves when making decisions about their lives – even when it’s not comfortable to do so. You can read their messages of empowerment here.

Attendees left with an understanding that girls should not have to reconcile their own dreams with expectations of “who they should be” in order to succeed in their careers and were motivated to create work environments that value the unique perspectives and contributions of women.
