Argyros Girl Scout Leadership Center

The Argyros Girl Scout Leadership Center Opens Up Her World

Coming soon to Marina Park in Newport Beach—the state-of-the-art Argyros Girl Scout Leadership Center, named after philanthropist and community leader, Julia Argyros, will serve Orange County’s nearly 21,000 Girl Scouts as a hub for Girl Scout STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs. Through INSPIRE, the Leadership Center’s signature multimedia program, girls will have life-changing opportunities to explore exciting 21st Century careers and learn how to take action on issues they care about, while developing an understanding of the importance of STEM education to their lives. Girls will also create lifelong memories while exploring the Balboa Peninsula, kayaking from the Bayfront property, and roasting marshmallows for S’mores on the sprawling patio as the sun sets over the ocean.

Construction of the Argyros Girl Scout Leadership Center in Newport Beach is underway and scheduled to open in 2017.

  • INSPIRE – Girl Scouts of Orange County’s signature multimedia learning experience where Career Exploration and Take Action come to life
  • Water program opportunities, including kayaking and sailing
  • Kitchen, bathroom, and shower facilities for overnight visits
  • 2,000 sq.ft. patio (complete with gas fire ring)

The Argyros Girl Scout Leadership Center will boldly address the shortage of female leaders by providing Orange County’s nearly 21,000 Girl Scouts and 13,000 volunteers and adult members a state-of-the-art, safe learning environment where girls embrace challenges and expand their world by exploring 21st century careers and engaging in take action projects that have a sustainable impact.

The Leadership Center is aligned with Girl Scouts’ national mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place and Girl Scouts of Orange County’s vision to create the best leadership development experiences for all girls in Orange County.  As the first leadership center of its kind in Orange County, the Argyros Girl Scout Leadership Center will fill a critical gap in our county’s developmental offerings and address the lack of women in leadership and STEM careers, where future job growth is expected to soar.

By helping to bring the Argyros Girl Scout Leadership Center to Orange County, supporters will provide girls life-changing experiences that broaden their horizons through program experiences they won’t find anywhere else and help them develop confidence and skills vital to succeed in life.

Take Action & Career Exploration

Programs at the Argyros Girl Scout Leadership Center will inspire girls to become excited about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) at an early age, understand the role STEM plays in their life, and how STEM is part of all careers - beyond those of scientists and engineers.

At the heart of the Leadership Center will be INSPIRE, Girl Scouts of Orange County’s signature interactive, multimedia program, through which girls will virtually meet extraordinary women spanning diverse careers and learn the vital role STEM plays in what these women do. They’ll also hear from Girl Scout Award recipients across the nation who have taken action using STEM skills to tackle important issues -- and learn how they can do the same!

Community Leaders Speak Out

“An investment in Girl Scouts is an investment in our future. Girls and young women visiting this first-of-its-kind Leadership Center will quickly learn that there are no boundaries for what they can do. This is a safe environment where girls from all cultures and backgrounds can apply their talents and passions to creating powerful and lasting change in our communities and around the world.”

-      Julia Argyros , Philanthropist and Community Leader

“Girl Scouts empowers girls in our neighborhoods and communities to develop vital leadership skills that will last a lifetime.  The new Girl Scouts Leadership Center will elevate the impact of Girl Scouting in Orange County and beyond by introducing girls to career paths in STEM and other professional services areas at an early age when they have time to think about and plan for their futures.”

-      Sandra Hutchens, Orange County Sheriff-Coroner and Girl Scout alumna

“It’s vitally important for girls in our community to envision successful futures for themselves and learn how to take the steps to achieve their goals.  By encouraging girls to explore career paths and introducing them to strong female leaders and STEM professionals, Girl Scouts is helping to shape the next generation of leadership, which leads to a stronger Orange County.”

-          Max Gardner, President and CEO, Orange County United Way

“I am proud to support Girl Scouts because, as a Girl Scout Alumna myself, I know the life-changing experiences that Girl Scouts provides to girls in our community.  The Girl Scouts Leadership Center will take these experiences a step further – giving volunteers the tools they need to help girls practice their leadership skills and explore ways that they can take action on issues they care about.”

-          Elizabeth Stahr, Girl Scout alumna

“Girl Scouts plays a critical role in helping girls set and achieve goals and try new things in a safe environment.  I am excited to support a project like the Girl Scouts Leadership Center, which will provide a venue with state of the art technology for girls to ‘try on’ different careers and see themselves as leaders.”

-          Dr. Victoria Collins, Girl Scout Alumna

“Women are dramatically underrepresented in leadership positions – in government and in the private sector.  Unless we take steps to prepare girls with the tools, skills and support to take the lead, this won’t change.  Girl Scouts is uniquely positioned to turn the tide and, through the Girl Scouts Leadership Center, provide girls with a strong vision of what they can achieve.”

-          Dr. Judy Rosener, Professor Emerita, UCI Paul Merage School of Business, author

“Growing up as a Girl Scout helped me see myself as a leader and showed me how I can positively impact my community and my country.  It is our responsibility to introduce girls to opportunities to lead early on, so that they can become our future CEO’s, political leaders and community advocates.  This facility fills a critical gap, enabling girls to explore, learn and practice leadership in a new way.”

-          Loretta Sanchez , Congresswoman, 46th District of California, Girl Scout alumna

“The Girl Scouts Leadership Center will amplify the science and math education that girls in our community are receiving in school, getting them out into the community and giving them the opportunity to take what they’ve learned and focus on real world applications.”

-          Al Mijares, Ph.D., OC Superintendent of Schools

“STEM careers are projected to grow dramatically in the next ten years, and we will have a critical need to fill these positions with capable and visionary leaders.  The Girl Scouts program and the Girl Scouts Leadership Center will address this important need and prepare a future workforce that is ready to step into these growing fields.”
