Your Role as a Troop Leader

Thank you for choosing to volunteer as a Troop Leader with the Girl Scouts of Orange County.

As a Troop Leader, you'll be a mentor and a cheerleader for the girls. You'll work with both girls and parents to chart a course for fun, learning, and friendship. You'll coordinate and organize meeting activities, family engagement, and help girls plan adventures which will help them discover things about themselves, connect with each other, and take action in their communities.

What Troops Do- Preparing for Success

Troops make friends, build new skills, earn badges and awards, and have fun!

Girl Scout research tells us that the most successful troops have the following in common:

  • Have at least 12 registered Girl Scouts in their troop
  • Host meetings 2-4 times per month during the school year
  • Hold an annual parent meeting
  • Encourage the girls to plan varied activities; including badges and Journeys, field trips, special events, community service, highest awards, and camp
  • Utilize the Volunteer Toolkit (VTK) and girlscoutsoc.org to discover the latest news, updates, tools, events, and programs
  • Participate in the Girl scout Cookie and Fall Product Programs
  • Celebrate accomplishments with an end-of-year celebration
  • Pariticpate in at least one summer activity together

Uniforms

For over a century, Girl Scouts have proudly worn distinctive uniforms that symbolize the high ideals for which the organization stands.

Girls want to look—and feel—their best when representing Girl Scouts. And now they can, with uniform options that are in step with today's trends and active lifestyles.

Our new unified look keeps the iconic elements of the classic Girl Scout uniform, but adds a few modern twists.

Girl Scouts at each level now wear one required element (tunic, sash, or vest) to display official pins and awards. Girls can mix and match pieces from the official Girl Scout collection to complete the uniform, or add items from their own wardrobes.
