Summer Sessions at a Glance

A summer at Camp Scherman offers girls a safe and supportive girls-only environment to learn new skills, build confidence, and create lifelong memories with new friends as they have fun at every turn.

All summer sessions run Monday through Friday unless otherwise indicated. Transportation to and from summer camp is provided by a charter bus company with experienced mountain drivers. All campers will receive a special edition Camp Scherman patch and t-shirt.

Summer Resident Camp registraton is now open. Register for your preferred session below! 

Session 1: July 2-6, 2018

Brownie Blast! (grades 2-3)

Explore camp like only a Brownie can! Paddle around the lake, take aim at archery, get creative during arts and crafts, and sing silly songs with your friends under the starry night sky. Each day will bring new and exciting adventures.

Don’t sit inside when you can enjoy the crystal clear mountain air! Whether you are new to camp or visit every year, try a little bit of everything- including hiking, low ropes, archery, and more. Choose your own adventure and have a summer to remember!

CIT I: Counselor in Training (grades 10-11)

This session runs through Session 2 (July 2 - 13)

Discover your leadership talents and learn how to share them with kids at one of the largest Girl Scout camps in the nation! Find out what being a camp counselor at Camp Scherman is all about. Program planning and other interactive skills will be shared while you explore your leadership style. Applications are due April 20, 2018.

FANtasy Camp (grades 4-6)

Dress up as your favorite fantasy character. All villains, heroes, and princesses are welcome. Play Quidditch and create your own FANtasy accessories. Design your very own wand and experiment with hocus-pocus while exploring the magic of Camp Scherman.

Night Owls (grades 6-12)

Experience the wonders of camp after the sun goes down. Use your night vision to hike with the light of the moon as your guide and keep your eyes peeled for nocturnal wildlife in their natural habitat! Find constellations while floating in the pool and enjoy activities under the starry night sky.

Swim, Paddle, Play (grades 4-6)

Grab your sunscreen and swimsuit for a water-filled adventure! Experience a polar swim in the morning and take a dip under the stars at night. Kayak across the lake, play water games, and paddle to your next adventure.

Take the Reins (grades 4-6)

Beginner and intermediate riders will have fun with an emphasis on instruction and arena riding, grooming and caring for horses, as well as developing and strengthening skills of mounting, dismounting, and riding position for walking and trotting. All girls will take a riding test at the beginning of camp and participate in activities that match their ability. 

Please note that all riding is Western style.

WIT: Wrangler in Training (grades 10-11)

This session runs through Session 2 (July 2 - 13)

Discover your leadership talents and incorporate them into the riding program at Camp Scherman! Find out what being a camp counselor at Camp Scherman is all about. Program planning, camper dynamics, and other interactive skills will be shared while you explore your leadership style. Knowledge of horses and advanced Western riding skills are required. Applications are due April 20, 2018.

Session 2: July 9-13, 2018

Adventure Girl (grades 4-6)

Embrace adventure and sleep outside under a blanket of stars (or in a tent)! Learn basic survival skills and knots that can help you in different situations. Have fun with friends while you explore and discover camp.

All campers and staff sleep outside in the meadow, not in cabins.

Good Eats (grades 4-6)

Cook up a storm while you learn to prepare mouth-watering meals and delicious treats in the outdoors. In between tastings, experience a buffet of activities, like archery, canoeing, songs and games, and more!

Ridge Riders (grades 7-12)

Intermediate and advanced riders will build their Western trotting skills, ride bareback, and learn to maneuver around poles at a higher gait. They'll also learn to improve posture and enjoy longer trails in and around camp. Plus, they’ll showcase their skills during a fun-filled, all-camp “rodeo.” All girls will take a riding test at the beginning of camp and participate in activities that match their ability.

** Includes the potential for an out of camp trip for an off-site, multi-night hike/ride.**

STEM in the Outdoors (grades 5-8)

Discover the chemistry of tie-dye and ice cream, and take home souvenirs from your experience. Have fun exploring all the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math behind camp. All OC Cadette Level Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to earn parts of, or the entire, GSOC My STEM Life badge. All OC Junior Level Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to earn parts of, or the entire, GSOC STEMsational ME! badge.

Design It Your Way (grades 4-6)

Explore the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) behind design. Learn how to create a pattern and digitize your own vinyl decal and discover how LED circuitry works. When you are not creating, try all the activities that camp has to offer.

LEAP (grades 6-9)

While earning the Program Aide Award, girls will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of what leadership development means and guide younger girls on their leadership path. Enhance your skills in communication, group dynamics, and team building.  When not engaging in LEAP programming, campers will be able to participate in a wide variety of favorite camp activities.
